Dear Mom…

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I wanted to say how grateful I am to still have my mother. We spent our winter in Florida together under the same roof, 24/7 and it made me realize how blessed we (my siblings and I) are to have a mom as wonderful as ours.

My mom has lived alone in a 55+ community for over 20 years and moves on a on her own time. With that being said, she’s always been very punctual. So, if you’re picking her up at a specific time, she will be ready and waiting. I was a football mom and if you’re a football parent, you’ll appreciate the rule ” If your early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, your late. If your late, you’ll do 100 push-ups.

Spending so much time with mom in Florida reminded of how funny she really is. She has that unexpected wit that comes out when you least expect it. Do you know someone like that…. spontaneously funny? Well, that’s my mom. It also made me wonder what in the literal heck is she doing in the bathroom for so long? Guess if I’m lucky enough to live to 82, I will find out.

I think she really enjoyed the winter in Florida, but she was happy to get home to her car, amongst her own things and in her known ‘hood’.

She’s more open minded than some people her age and has no patience for ignorance. If she likes you, you’ll feel it and if she’s not fond of you, you’ll feel that too. Don’t mistake her kindness for weakness. She has lived her life on her terms for nearly most of her life and you are not about to tell her what to do now.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms (male and female) out there. Life is too short so, take your time in the bathroom.

Have a great day, unless you’ve made other plans!”
